History seeks characters

From the secret of these drawers we extract the essence of Iran’s memory. Political prisoners reappear at the center of a story that had lost its main actors. They tell a reality without archive, left in the hands of the dictatorship. Demonstrators, soldiers and mullahs intersect around the inevitable authoritarian figure. This organization of political and military characters miniaturizes violence, playing the persistent ambiguity of images.

In an enclosed environment we see the construction of Iran’s political scene. It reveals some truncated dimensions of recent conflicts and contrasts artistic fiction and reality, hope and fear, past and present.

Since the disputed election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, several hundred people were convicted in mass trials "for example" from August 2009 and January 2010, including dozens that have been sentenced to death for moharebeh ("enmity towards God ").
